When you come in for an eyebrow wax from Brazils Waxing Center, we can help you determine what will be best based on your face shape, but if you would like to know for yourself right now, this blog can help. In this post, we will go over how you can determine your face shape, and which brow shape is best for every face shape, so when you do come into our waxing salon for eyebrow waxing, you can already know exactly what you want.

Finding your face shape

Knowing your face shape is good information to have for a variety of reasons. It can help you with everything from determining the most flattering hairstyle to identifying which pair of glasses is best for you. It is also the first thing you need to know when deciding what brows are best for you. To figure out your face shape, first you will need a measuring tape.

STEP ONE: Measure your forehead from the top of the arch of one of your brows to the other. Take note of the measurement.
STEP TWO: Measure your cheekbones, starting at the bump below one eye to the bump on the other. Write down this measurement as well.
STEP THREE: Measure your jawline from the bottom point of your chin to the angle of your jaw right under your ear. Multiply this number by two.
STEP FOUR: Measure your face length, starting at the center of your hairline to the bottom of your chin.

You can use these numbers to precisely understand your face shape. Now, look into the mirror and observe for any of these features.

Oval

For an oval face, the forehead is wider than the chin. Oval faces have prominent cheekbones and then their face narrows around the chin. The angle of the jaw is rounded.

Round

When your face is round, it is nearly as wide as it is long. The widest measurement on your face is between the cheeks. The length of your face and the measurement between your cheek bones are likely very similar.

Long

When you have a long face shape, your forehead, cheekbones, and jawlines are roughly the same width. Like the oval shape, the chin is narrower than the rest of the face.

Square

Square face shapes feature square jawlines, which is the most obvious tip off. As far as your measurements go, just like with a long face shape, chances are your jawlines, cheekbones, and forehead are roughly the same.

Heart

Heart-shaped faces are quite similar to oval shapes, but the chin tapes to a point, like the bottom of a heart.

Diamond

Diamond shapes are less common. Usually, diamond shapes have very angular faces with short foreheads. Distinct from the other face shapes is the fact that the widest part of the face is at the temples.

Best brow shape for every face

Now that you know your face shape, you can determine which brow shape is best for you.

Oval

Oval shapes are lucky because their faces are well-proportioned, making it easy to rock a classic eyebrow look. Go for a soft-angled eyebrow shape, going straight up to a gently round arch, then tapering off to a point at the tail.

Round

For round face shapes, the goal is to make the face look longer and less round. A great way to accomplish this is with high arches. Additionally, stay away from round brow shapes, which only serve to emphasize the roundness of your face. Ideally, your brow will go straight up to the point of the arch, then taper off at an angle.

Long

When you have a long face, your goal is to make your face look shorter so it is more proportional. The best way to accomplish this is with a flat brow shape. The horizontal shape of the brow creates the illusion of a shorter face.

Square

Because of the strength of a square jaw, the goal with shaping the brows is to balance out the jaw or soften it. If you like the strength of your jaw, you can balance it out with strong brows by opting for angled brows with a high arch. Alternatively, if you are looking to soften your look, go for a curved brow shape instead.

Heart

With a heart shape, you want to soften the angles of your jaw and chin. If your chin is the bottom of the heart, your brows are the top, so they should be rounded like the top of a heart. For a more natural look, go for a low arch, and for a more dramatic effect, go for a high arch. Either way, go for a round shape to emphasize the soft, feminine heart shape.

Diamond

When you have a diamond face shape, the goal is to soften the angles of your face and make it appear less wide. Curved brows accomplish this well. Alternatively, round brows can soften a diamond shape well if you are looking for a softer eyebrow.

Rules for every face shape

Regardless of your face shape, there are certain considerations you should keep in mind.

  • Your brow should start at the bridge of your nose. You can find this by holding a pen vertically on either side of the nose.
  • The arch should be roughly two-thirds of the way, not in the center of your brow. A centered arch looks unnatural.
  • Make sure your brow isn’t too short; the end should at least be in line with the outer corner of the eye. The best way to lift the eye is to make sure the end tapers to a defined point.
