Hard Wax vs. Soft Wax, What’s the Difference?

Before getting any sort of waxing service, it is important to understand and identify one important element: the wax. Understanding the differences between hard wax and soft wax can better prepare you for your service. As qualified waxing experts, we are very aware of the two types but are definite promoters of hard wax over soft wax. Here is some information on the two types of wax:

Soft Wax:

Traditionally, soft wax has been the “go-to” in the waxing industry. Soft wax is typically the type most people are familiar with. This type of wax requires a strip to remove the hair and is normally used for larger areas of hair removal. The soft wax is applied to the skin very thinly and a muslin strip is applied on top of the wax to remove the hair. After the hair is removed, the technician applies an oil or some kind of wax remover over the waxed area, to remove any residue.

With any type of waxing, there is some removal of dead skin cells, as it is a form of exfoliation. However, with soft wax, there is a higher likelihood that the wax will remove more skin. This is because the soft wax actually adheres to the skin, not just the hair. Technicians using this type of wax stray away from going over the area more than once for this reason. There is also a higher risk of burning with soft wax because the temperature itself needs to be higher in order to use the wax properly.

Hard Wax:

With hard wax, a cloth strip is not used. The hairs get stuck in the hard wax without the wax adhering to the skin. This allows technicians to go over the areas a second time with minimal discomfort and without fear of breaking the skin. Hard wax is also thicker and applied to the skin with an application tool. Once applied, the wax hardens and can be removed directly from the area.

Our wax:

Our wax is medical-grade vegan-based hard wax that is applied slightly above the temperature of the skin… warm, not hot. Once dried, the wax will adhere to only the hair and pull out the entire root, but will not tear the skin. What does this mean? Our wax is gentle enough for sensitive skin, yet strong and malleable enough to remove the thickest, strongest, most stubborn hair by the roots. The performance of the wax is amazing, and the discomfort is minimized.

Again, the perfect wax would have maximum performance, ZERO discomfort. We are as close to the perfect wax as you can get! Our clients who have compared us to the old “strip waxing” process say our system outperforms strip wax and “it was easy!” We like that, you will too.
